We were so young and innocent - little did we know. We'll be saying the same thing 16 years from now (hopefully), so it's all relative.

I could hardly believe that was 16 years ago! Wow, look and my THICK head of hair! I should have a QUARTER of that mop (that I used to hate) now. I loved those signature Raybans… to this day there are no other sunglasses to wear (with updated styles, of course).

Yes, of course I remember my yearbook quote - It's something that is still fresh and relevant today. In fact, it's one of the themes to my blog. My quote read, 'Open up your eyes and look around, it's just an illusion, 7/83'.

Yes, on the surface it is the title of one of my all-time favorite songs (that I am currently working on a post about), and the numbers represent the first time I heard it (at my Uncle's Beach House in July of '83). But, that's not why I chose it - it was the impressions that were left on me in the era of that song (mostly from him) that made it so special, and the lyrics meant something different to me than what was intended.

But even at that young age, I always knew that there was something deeper than what the eyes saw and registered to the brain. This was due to that inherent feeling of being 'different' (gay) and not relating to 'kids' my own age. I always questioned everything and I knew that perception was relative and that nothing is what it seemed - it was all an illusion - at least on some levels. I just didn't understand why in those days, but this song always made that connection for me and put it into the words that I didn't know how to express back then.
